Jeffrey and Lacey’s Park Place Almond Wedding

On Lacey and Jeffrey’s wedding day, the almond trees were in full bloom and the air was pleasantly warm; they had picked the perfect date for a Park Place wedding. Jeffrey and Lacey were married at the gazebo in front of their friends and family.  Lacey wore a gorgeous mermaid dress with flowers from head to toe, which echoed the blooming almond trees… and her shoes, GUSH!  Jeffrey wore a dashing grey suit with a white tie.  Their coral, blush, and peach colors were vibrant and full of fun, just like the bride and groom and their bridal party.  We had a great time goofing off with everyone and doing group poses, even copying the movie poster for Bridesmaids!  We could not have asked for a more fun group of people to photograph in the blooms. The couple celebrated into the night, and Lacey even pulled a prank on Jeffrey during the garter toss…talk about hilarious reaction shots.  We were also able to capture some amazing film shots of Lacey and Jeffrey.  The couple’s wedding has already been featured on The Knot….just click the Featured badge at the top of our blog to find it!

Gianna’s Almond Orchard Cake Smash

Gianna and I had such a fun time playing in the almond orchards while we celebrated her first birthday!  We played with balloons, over sized chairs, and big wooden letters that spelled out ONE.  She was adorable in her frilly little girl dress and her giant pink flower bow (which I am a total sucker for).  Once we had documented Gianna in her pretty dress, it was time to change for the cake smashing!  Gianna wore a tutu and a long pearl necklace that perfectly complemented the white cake with white frosting flowers.  To make this occasion even more special, her mom made sure this was her first time tasting sweets!  By the time we finished shooting, there was frosting all over her face and hands.  We had a great time playing cake smash in the almond trees.  Happy first birthday to this cutie pie!

Tara and JJ’s Rio Bravo Country Club Wedding

Tara and JJ were married at the Rio Bravo Country Club at a beautiful outdoor ceremony coordinated by our friends at Fairy Godmother, with video by R&C Films. I loved this wedding because I was able to shoot film for both their engagement and wedding photos, and they turned out stunning. Tara wore a lace dress with vintage-styled shoes, while JJ wore a tan suit. The wedding was happy and sweet, with the bride’s sister as a maid of honor, and the groom’s cousin as a best man making up the wedding party. The couple gave each other bibles as a gift to set the tone for their lives together. During the reception, we snuck off for some night photography under the stars.

Styled Shoot in San Diego, California

When my friend Mallory (owner of M Studios in San Deigo, California) called me and wanted to do a styled photo shoot with super fun hair styles, I was so excited!  Styled photo shoots (espcially ones that take me to the beach) are my favorite!  Mallory got super creative by adding fabrics and ropes into the girl’s hair!  Check out the fun time we had below!

Greg & Lacey’s JEH Ranch Wedding

We loved the simple details for Lacey and Greg’s JEH Ranch wedding in Bakersfield, California! Pinecones, roses, and lavender were some of the floral detail that went into this eggplant and taupe wedding. The groomsmen rocked beige tuxedos (which we LOVE!), equipped with purple bow ties. (But of course my favorite detail was the bride’s Jimmy Choo shoes!…just look at all of that sparkle!)  The head table had a giant “R” marquee letter that served as a focal point for the reception. The simple ceremony was followed by a fun photo sesh with the wedding party and Bride and Groom! After a fun night of dancing, the couple did a grand sparkler exit that lit up the ranch!

We had such a blast photographing Lacy and Greg’s wedding.  Everyone was so much fun!  Check out the story of their day below…

Dressing for your Engagement Session

One of the most common questions I get from clients is….what do I wear to my photo session?  It’s a great question…in fact, I ask myself that every day when I look in my closet, realize I have 20 things that don’t match each other, and go…what am I going to wear to work today?!?!

That’s when I pull out my virtual closet (aka my Pinterest “outfits” board).  While I don’t actually own the outfits in my virtual closet, I use them as inspiration when I just don’t know what to put on.  But there I was, standing in my closet, contemplating my blog post for the week and thought, this is a great way to help people visually with their wardrobe selection for their photo sessions!

So here it is….my thoughts on styling and color selections for your photo sessions….

1. DON’T BE AFRAID TO BE TRENDY!

29 20140514135628 2653743 medium 29 20140514135625 2653740 medium

Why not?  It’s what you like now, isn’t it?!  Your photos will go out of style weather or not you wear whats trending.  (Who remembers white tshirts and jeans on the beach?…definatly a 90s trend)  So embrace this time in your life,  be you and have fun!  Guys, please don’t be afraid of colored pants and Sperry’s.  Who doesn’t love a man in a slightly nautical look?!

2. IF YOU ARE GOING FOR A FLOWY, DREAMY LOOK….GO WITH WHITES, CREAMS, TANS, AND NATURAL COLORS

29 20140514135627 2653742 medium 29 20140514135631 2653747 medium 29 20140514135635 2653750 medium

Flowy fabrics and muted colors equals dreamy feeling photos!  We love seeing chiffon and lace in these selections.  And yes, a little bit of pattern is okay!  Just try to stick to something subtle and not too overwhelming…..look for florals in natural tones

3.  MAXI MAXI MAXI!!!!

29 20140514135623 2653739 medium 29 20140514135629 2653744 medium
29 20140514135633 2653748 medium 29 20140514135636 2653751 medium

Maxi skirts or dresses are the best way to get a dreamy, flowy look….and they are super flattering (AND COMFORTABLE!)

4. GUYS…DON’T BE AFRAID TO DRESS UP!

29 20140514135626 2653741 medium 29 20140514135630 2653745 medium
29 20140514135630 2653746 medium 29 20140514135634 2653749 medium

We love it when our guys dress up.  Some of our favorite trends for men have been suspenders and bowties.  We also love layering…not sure what to wear?  Copy the maneqines at the stores you shop at.  Not sure where to shop?  We suggest Banana Republic!

5. IT’S ALL ABOUT COLOR SCHEMES!

29 20140514141631 2653752 medium

Gone are the days of matchy matchy!  (thank goodness)  My biggest tip when choosing colors?…just don’t clash!  Pick outfits in the same color plalte.  Not sure what goes togther?  My life hack for this is to use a color picker….my personal favorite is Adobe Kuler.

6. THE LBD

29 20140514164227 2653953 medium 29 20140514164228 2653954 medium
29 20140514164229 2653956 medium 29 20140514164228 2653955 medium

We all love a good LBD but black can photograph harsh.  Opt for grey instead to soften your look.

Hope these tips help…don’t forget to follow my Pinterest for even more outfit and wedding ideas!
